The group achieved fame in the 1960s as a major act for Motown Records. Formed by friends Annette Beard\, Rosalind Ashford and Gloria Williams\, Martha Reeves eventually joined the group\, and she became its lead vocalist after Williams’s departure in 1962. The group signed with Gordy Records\, a subsidiary of Motown. \nThe group’s hits included “Heat Wave” (1963)\, “Quicksand” (1963)\, “Dancing in the Street” (1964)\, “Nowhere to Run” (1965)\, “I’m Ready for Love” (1966)\, “Jimmy Mack” (1967) and “Honey Chile” (1967). Singer-songwriter Sean Russell\, a proud resident and advocate of the Fort Worth Texas music scene\, formed the band mid-2015 with a group of much-lauded players from the area (Taylor Tatsch- guitar / Tamara Brown- fiddle / Draya Ruse- Drums/ Jeremy Hull- bass\, Steve Hammond – Keys ). This Americana-ish rock band shares an affection for indie rock royalty ranging from Tom Petty to Oasis with a hint of Texas twang that is intentionally woven for the discerning ear. Blending ranchera\, cumbia\, bolero\, and more\, Saul is on a mission to revive mariachi while carving out his voice as a Mexican-American artist. \n8:30 PM – Loca Pasion – A Tribute to La Mafia \nJoey “JMZ” Jimenez\, bandleader of Loca Pasión\, a tribute to La Mafia\, recently shared the story behind the creation of the project during an interview with Bo Corona on Q99.5 FM\, just days before the band headlines the Tejano radio station’s 12th Birthday Bash on September 27 at Angelo Civic Hall.\nA lifelong La Mafia fan\, Jimenez said the tribute idea sparked in December 2023 while he and his wife — also a devoted La Mafia follower — were baking Christmas cookies and listening to the legendary group’s classics. “We must have heard about eight or nine songs in a row that I was like\, oh\, my God\, these are jams\,” Jimenez explained. “But I thought to myself\, man\, they don’t play none of these songs. That’s when I blurted it out: I should start a La Mafia tribute band.” Jimenez\, who has toured with A.B. Quintanilla y Los Kumbia Kings and Siggno\, revealed he had been invited to join La Mafia on three different occasions but was unable to accept due to his touring commitments. “Trust me\, it would have been my dream to be in La Mafia\,” he said. “But at the time\, it just didn’t make sense to make the transition.” \nThat dream instead transformed into Loca Pasión\, born from Jimenez’s desire to honor the group’s golden era of the 1980s and 1990s — the sax-driven sound that made La Mafia an icon of Tejano music. After quickly enlisting bassist Dusty Reyes\, another die-hard fan\, Jimenez sought the blessing of La Mafia’s own Armando Lichtenberger Jr. “I wanted to move forward with their blessing\,” Jimenez said. “Mando told me he knew I would give it the integrity and the drive it deserves.”Originally\, Jimenez planned to name the band Los Mafiosos\, in homage to La Mafia’s loyal fan base. But with Lichtenberger’s advice\, the name shifted to Loca Pasión\, inspired by the group’s hit “Mi Loca Pasión.” \nThe band officially announced its formation on January 1\, 2025\, after spending all of 2024 rehearsing and dissecting every detail of La Mafia’s sound. “What I think is connecting with the fans is the authenticity of the sound\,” Jimenez said. “There’s only one La Mafia\, and there will never be another. After 3 years with the emerging artist and a few opportunities like playing onstage at the Grand Ole Opry under his belt\, he should have been on cloud nine. He was living out any young guitar player’s dream\, but instead he was frustrated with the feeling something was missing.\nIn late 2013 Tony & his wife Jaime took a leap of faith and released their first single as a country duo\, Pierce Avenue\, written solely by Tony\, “Take It to the House.” In 2016\, Tony entered a guitar contest online through Guitar Center\, and was 1 of 5 finalists out of 6\,000 entries to be flown to Los Angeles\, CA and play on stage with Vince Gill and his band in the ‘Onstage with Vince Gill Contest’ chosen by Vince himself! Vince then invited all five contestants to play a special show with him one evening in Nashville! Each contestant got to use their allotted time on stage with Vince and his band as they chose. Mainstream country music and independent Americana tend to occupy separate orbits. Yet for 37 years\, Foster has thrived in both as a songwriter\, recording artist\, live performer and producer. His songs—solo\, with Foster and Lloyd and recorded by other artists—have topped the country\, Americana\, and AAA charts alike. \nFoster developed his best-of-both-worlds sensibilities growing up in the small West Texas town of Del Rio\, where he absorbed music from both the local pop radio station by day and the renegade country from border station XERF by night. \nHe first gained attention as half of the duo Foster & Lloyd. who\, with “Crazy Over You” became the first duo in history to top the Country charts with their debut single. Their music appealed as much to college rock listeners looking for an edgy roots sound as it did country fans craving tradition\, and they went on to release three ground-breaking albums for the label.
