BB King’s musicians carry on his legacy
For more than half a century, BB King and BB King’s Band defined the blues with classics like “The Thrill Is Gone,” “Every Day I Have the Blues,” “How Blues Can You Get?” and “Why I Sing the Blues.” Combining more than 100 years of musical artistry, original members of the BB King Blues Band have gotten together to preserve BB King’s memory along with Fort Worth-based blues artist, Michael Lee, who was a 2018 contestant on NBC’s The Voice. Raised around the blues his entire life, Michael spent the majority of his young life in blues clubs receiving an ivy league-level education from watching and playing with blues legends like Andrew “Junior Boy” Jones, Buddy Whittington and Lucky Peterson. On nights he was not in the blues clubs, he was down in the stockyards soaking up the country music sounds that emanated from the honky-tonks. Like Delbert McClinton and many Fort Worth musicians before him, Michael’s style of music has the perfect blend of blues and country. He released his first record in 2014, released two singles in 2018, “Here I Am” and “Heart of Stone;” and is releasing his sophomore record this year.
